About the role#
The International Tax Services Summer 2027 internship at BDO USA provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience with cross-border tax matters. Interns work under the guidance of experienced team members to perform tax research, analyze international tax issues, and assist with client reporting obligations. This role involves collaborating with international colleagues to align US tax rules with foreign tax laws.
What you'll do#
- Assist with developing, recommending, and implementing critical thinking to provide clients with tax advice on international tax issues.
- Gain exposure to the development of work plans for assigned clients.
- Develop an understanding of technical and practical issues regarding international taxation and explore potential areas of specialization.
- Perform research by identifying necessary issues, accessing reliable sources, and reporting on the analysis.
- Assist in preparing Written Tax Advice (WTA) on international tax and cross-border transactions.
- Obtain required client information to prepare international tax compliance forms and US international informational reporting.
- Utilize tax research databases such as RIA, BNA, and Lexis Nexis.
- Use firm tax compliance software and other tax-related applications under supervision.
- Develop a basic understanding of ASC 740-10 as it applies to international tax issues.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor's or Master's program in Accounting, Taxation, or a Master of Laws (LLM) degree program.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team.
- Leadership experience is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is preferred.
- Experience utilizing RIA, BNA, Lexis Nexis, and/or Westlaw is preferred.
- A J.D. or progress toward CPA credits is preferred.
