About the role#
This summer internship offers a hands-on perspective on tax practices at BDO. You will work under the supervision of experienced professionals to prepare returns and extensions. This role is a full-time position for Summer 2028 based in Minneapolis.
What you'll do#
- Prepare tax returns and extensions while ensuring compliance with firm policies and tax authorities.
- Use tax software to complete simple returns and organize files to minimize rework.
- Assist with quarterly estimates, year-end filing projections, and responses to Internal Revenue Service notices.
- Apply firm standards regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48 and assist with income tax provisions.
- Research tax information using online tools and monitor developments in tax law.
- Communicate findings to your team regarding how new tax developments affect clients.
- Take initiative on upcoming due dates and engagement letters.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelors or Masters program in Accounting or a relevant field.
- Active pursuit of school credits required to become a CPA.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and follow instructions.
- A positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
- Preference is given to students pursuing a Masters degree and those with prior leadership experience.
