About the role#
BCI is seeking a Legal Co-op Student or Intern for the Winter 2027 term, running from January to April 2027. You will join the Legal Affairs Department to support our in-house counsel across corporate and investment-law practices. This is a full-time, paid position based in Victoria.
What you'll do#
- Support in-house lawyers with corporate and investment-law matters.
- Review investment-related documents for existing and potential deals.
- Research, summarize, and present legal materials including governance term sheets, shareholder agreements, and investment agreements.
- Review commercial contracts related to day-to-day operations.
- Maintain and update internal legal precedents.
- Assist with special projects as needed.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in law school, or graduation from law school within the past year.
- Legal authorization to work in Canada.
- Interest in business law, specifically corporate, securities, mergers and acquisitions, contracts, and commercial law.
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent writing skills and attention to detail.
- Commitment to high ethical standards and a strong work ethic.
- Interpersonal skills and a willingness to accept feedback.
- Experience or curiosity regarding the use of AI in legal work.
- Involvement in student groups or extracurricular activities.
Location & details#
- Location: Victoria, British Columbia.
- Modality: On-site at our office with the option to work from home one day per week.
- Term: January to April 2027.
- Compensation: $2,155 gross bi-weekly, plus 6% vacation pay. Candidates with or working toward a graduate degree receive $2,330 gross bi-weekly.
- Travel: A fixed-rate travel allowance is provided for those relocating to Victoria for the term.
