The Institute for Oral History at Baylor University is seeking a Transcription Assistant to support the collection, preservation, and sharing of historically significant memories. This role primarily involves transcribing oral history interviews and performing administrative office tasks. This is a paid, part-time student position with an ongoing, rolling term.
What you'll do#
- Transcribe audio recordings collected by the institute.
- Audit-check and proofread transcripts for accuracy.
- Research correct spellings of names and specialized terms using departmental and online resources.
- Assist with office tasks, including mail processing and journal distribution.
- Post flyers across campus to promote upcoming events.
What you'll need#
- Ability to transcribe audio recordings with high accuracy.
- Strong research skills, particularly with primary sources.
- Experience in proofreading and audit-checking written materials.
- Familiarity with oral history methodology.
- Ability to perform various assigned office tasks.
- Preferred majors include History, Communications, or English.
Location & details#
- Location: Waco, Texas (On-site at Carroll Library).
- Schedule: Minimum of 10 hours per week between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
- Compensation: $10.00 per hour.
