About the role#
This internship offers an opportunity to work with a Plant Variety Protection Scientist during summer field trials in Woodland, California. You will focus on collecting data from plant characteristics throughout the growing season to ensure research accuracy. This is a hands-on position that requires working in both field and laboratory environments.
What you'll do#
- Assess plant parts using calibration guides to collect reliable data on fruit and vegetable characteristics.
- Input data into management systems using computers or tablets.
- Work with the PVP Scientist to assess plant maturity and meet data collection deadlines.
- Perform general laboratory maintenance to support research operations.
- Maintain accurate records of field observations and measurements.
- Follow established protocols for data collection and quality assurance.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Botany, Biology, or Horticulture.
- Proficiency with computer programs for data input and management.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow calibration guides accurately.
- Comfort working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a research team.
- Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
