About the role#
This Quantitative Genetics Co-op position focuses on discovery research to improve workflows and deliver high-quality lines for the Product Design pipeline. You will work within the Crop Science division to apply innovations in genomics, bioinformatics, and environmental modeling. This role supports the implementation of Precision Breeding technical innovations and contributes to the optimization of breeding programs.
What you'll do#
- Conduct research projects to generate high-quality lines and actionable prescriptions for Product Design.
- Apply data science, genomics, and quantitative genetics to support project objectives.
- Execute technical strategies to design improved cohorts of germplasm aligned with Product Concept targets.
- Support the implementation of Precision Breeding innovations.
- Contribute technical expertise to breeding program design, goal definition, and the optimization of automated crossing processes.
- Identify opportunities for new technology implementation and process improvements.
- Promote Health, Safety & Environment, Compliance, and Business Conduct policies.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a PhD program.
- Experience developing population and quantitative genetics methods for breeding programs.
- Intermediate or advanced coding experience in R.
- Practice building linear mixed models for agricultural data analysis and genomic prediction.
- Experience coding and utilizing models or algorithms for breeding program design, genetic evaluation, or data acquisition.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze large biological datasets.
- Experience working in cross-functional and cross-cultural teams.
- Ability to lead and influence stakeholders without direct reporting relationships.
- Strong results orientation with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
