About the role#
Baxter & Woodman offers a summer internship for students interested in civil and environmental engineering. You will support our environmental and construction groups by working on the design and construction of various facilities. This role provides a well-rounded background in engineering and includes opportunities to work directly with firm clients.
What you'll do#
- Assist senior engineers with the evaluation, study, and design of potable water distribution systems, wastewater collection pipelines, and pumping stations.
- Help with the design of water and wastewater treatment plants and drainage systems.
- Conduct field work, studies, and design tasks related to water system rehabilitation.
- Perform field work associated with stormwater system management and the installation of water mains and sanitary sewers.
What you'll need#
- Ongoing pursuit of a 4-year degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Environmental Engineering.
- A minimum grade point average of 3.0/4.0.
- Availability to start in May or June 2027.
- Ability to travel throughout the Chicago area using your own transportation.
- Strong written, verbal, computer, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

- Positions are available in Chicago, Mokena, Crystal Lake, and Naperville, Illinois.
- This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027.
- Work modality includes on-site and hybrid options.
