About the role#
The Co-Op CNC Lathe Operator is a developmental manufacturing role for students studying Manufacturing Technology, Precision Machining, Mechanical Engineering, or related fields. You will work under direct supervision to support the production of precision components. This position offers hands-on experience with CNC turning, blueprint reading, metrology, and manufacturing quality systems.
What you'll do#
- Assist with the setup and operation of CNC lathe equipment.
- Load and unload raw materials and finished parts.
- Monitor machine performance and report any quality or tooling concerns.
- Perform dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, and indicators.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing routings.
- Clean, deburr, sand, bead blast, and finish parts.
- Prepare materials using saws and other secondary equipment.
- Document production and inspection data.
- Use Visual ERP or similar systems for job tracking and labor reporting.
- Participate in process reviews and continuous improvement projects.
- Keep your work area clean and organized following 5S standards.
- Follow all safety protocols, including PPE, LOTO, and machine guarding.
- Coordinate with machinists, engineers, and quality staff.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Manufacturing Technology, Mechanical Engineering, or Precision Machining program.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions and work safely.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Prior experience with machining coursework or vocational training is helpful.
- Familiarity with CNC equipment, blueprint reading, and precision measurement tools.
- Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 35 pounds.
