About the role#
Public Safety Aides (PSAs) support the Office of Parking and Commuter Services. This role provides an opportunity for students to become familiar with campus, work with university administrators, and assist with special events. It serves as a starting point for students interested in security, transportation, and sustainability.
What you'll do#
- Enforce parking policies across all campus properties.
- Conduct parking enforcement patrols and direct traffic.
- Provide customer service to guests and the campus community.
- Staff special events and assist the American University Police Department when needed.
- Perform office work and maintain regular communication with supervisors via radio and phone.
- Follow all program policies and supervisory directions.
What you'll need#
- Active Federal Work Study (FWS) award.
- Current or incoming American University student status.
- Minimum GPA of 2.5.
- Strong customer service skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods.
- Completion of all new hire paperwork and initial training.
- Experience with iPhone-based apps and handheld radios is preferred.
- Ability to handle challenging situations is preferred.
Location & details#
- Location: Washington, DC (East Campus).
- Schedule: Part-time, 9 to 15 hours per week.
- Availability required between 8 am and 10 pm, including weekdays and weekends.
- Must be available for Move-In, Move-Out, and Commencement activities.
