    About the role#

    DC Reads Team Leaders (TLs) act as the primary link between community site partners and the DC Reads leadership team. You will support the program by assisting with the recruitment, hiring, training, and management of Education Advocates. This is a paid, part-time position for the academic year.

    What you'll do#

    • Support Education Advocates by fostering a sense of community and conducting biweekly check-ins.
    • Serve as the main point of contact between advocates, site supervisors, and the DC Reads lead team.
    • Manage administrative tasks, including responding to emails within 24 hours, submitting timesheets, and reviewing site attendance logs.
    • Lead recruitment efforts such as tabling, class announcements, conducting interviews, and hosting info sessions.
    • Facilitate orientations and organize skills-building trainings for new advocates.
    • Participate in weekly team leader meetings, manage committees, and attend professional development events.
    • Ensure all Education Advocates are cleared before they begin work at their sites.

    What you'll need#

    • Current enrollment as a student at American University.
    • Experience as a DC Reads FWS Education Advocate or volunteer for at least one full semester.
    • Good standing within the DC Reads program.
    • A demonstrated commitment to educational equity.
    • Strong professional, communication, and organizational skills, along with a growth mindset.

    Location & details#

    • Location: Main Campus, Washington, DC.
    • Schedule: 8 to 10 hours per week during the academic year.
    • Compensation: $18.40 per hour.
