About the role#
The Center for Leadership and Community Engagement is hiring undergraduate students to serve as CSLP Peer Mentors. This role supports the Community Service-Learning Program by guiding participants through their service requirements and helping them connect their volunteer work to their academic coursework.
What you'll do#
- Mentor and manage a sub-cohort of 6 to 10 CSLP participants throughout the semester.
- Conduct monthly one-on-one check-ins to ensure students are logging service hours and meeting project requirements.
- Track student progress using an Excel tracker and the Canvas course page.
- Attend a 2-hour initial mentor training session.
- Support classroom visits to promote the CSLP program.
- Participate in in-person events such as the Nonprofit Networking Fair, orientations, and reflection sessions.
- Engage in the CSLP Teams group chat and meet biweekly with program staff.
- Escalate any issues to the Program Assistant or Program Director.
What you'll need#
- You must be an enrolled student at American University.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- A commitment to social justice, specifically within a JEDI framework.
- Background knowledge of service-learning pedagogy or experience working with non-profits is helpful.
- Previous CSLP experience is heavily preferred.
Location & details#
- This is an on-site position based in Washington, DC.
- The role is part-time, totaling approximately 32 hours per semester.
- Compensation is $18.40 per hour.
