About the role#
The CLEAR team at American University hires student Language Coaches to support the department of World Languages and Cultures. Coaches help students currently enrolled in language courses improve their skills. This role involves hosting resources on campus to enhance the learning experience. You will work as part of a team of native or fluent speakers to provide support throughout the academic year.
What you'll do#
- Facilitate the language learning experience for students.
- Help students schedule, reschedule, and attend coaching appointments.
- Ensure resources are kept in designated locations and stay in good working order.
- Collaborate with and assist your teammates.
- Present one proposal for a language-related cultural event each semester.
- Complete all required training sessions.
- Assist with additional tasks when not actively coaching.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an American University student.
- Native or highly fluent French speaking skills.
- Familiarity with French grammar structure and vocabulary.
- Ability to communicate language knowledge clearly to others.
- Successful completion of an assessment covering grammatical, oral, and writing skills.
- Vetting by faculty in the French language program.
- Punctuality and reliability.
- Previous experience with teaching or training is highly desired.
Location & details#
- Location: Main Campus, Washington, DC.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Employment Type: Part-time, approximately 6 to 8 hours per week with some shifts up to 2 hours per day. Sunday hours may be required.
- Term: Rolling.
