About the role#
The American Heart Association is seeking a Community Impact Intern for the Fall 2026 term. This role offers hands-on experience in a non-profit health organization, focusing on improving health outcomes through CPR awareness and emergency response planning. You will work in a hybrid capacity based in Omaha, Nebraska.
What you'll do#
- Help engage companies and community organizations by providing CPR education and training.
- Assist organizations in preparing for sudden cardiac arrest emergencies by integrating AED access and Cardiac Emergency Response Plans.
- Support the community impact team by documenting local work and identifying impact stories for public sharing.
- Create and manage a volunteer database while responding to inquiries about new opportunities.
- Participate in internal program evaluations and support development campaigns or community events.
- Attend meetings, health fairs, and community gatherings as requested.
What you'll need#
- Current status as a senior or graduate student in public health, community health, advocacy, or a related field.
- Experience with public speaking and community engagement in group or individual settings.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, and PowerPoint.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to work at least 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday, between 9am and 5pm.
- Reliable transportation and a stable Wi-Fi connection.
- Willingness to travel to local community events and meetings.
- Knowledge of CPR and bilingual skills in Spanish are preferred but not required.
