About the role#
The Commercial Rating and Underwriting (CRU) team manages risk for institutional exposures across all American Express business areas globally. This internship provides exposure to credit risk management, where you will support the assessment of credit exposures related to corporate and small business card programs, merchant service relationships, and the firm-wide securities portfolio.
What you'll do#
- Rate and underwrite credit exposures within an assigned region, industry, and business line.
- Perform fundamental analysis by reviewing business operations and financial performance.
- Analyze industry and country risk factors.
- Utilize internal and external rating model outputs to support credit decisions.
- Evaluate relationship profitability and program structures to assess credit extension needs.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a full-time undergraduate degree program with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.
- Academic focus in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, or Statistics.
- Understanding of fundamental financial analysis, including the ability to review corporate financial documents.
- Familiarity with GAAP/IFRS accounting standards, corporate valuation, and forecasting.
- Experience preparing company-specific and industry-wide credit memorandums.
