About the role#
The Commercial Rating and Underwriting (CRU) team assesses and manages institutional credit risk across all global business lines at American Express. This program provides interns with exposure to the credit decision process, including the evaluation of corporate and small business card programs, merchant service relationships, and firm-wide liquidity portfolios. Interns will work within a team that aligns with global banking standards and regulatory requirements.
What you'll do#
- Rate and underwrite credit exposures for a specific region, industry, and business line.
- Perform fundamental analysis by reviewing business operations, financial performance, and industry or country risks.
- Apply outputs from internal and external rating models to inform credit decisions.
- Evaluate relationship profitability and program structures to determine the necessity of credit extensions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a full-time undergraduate degree program, with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.
- Academic background in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, or Statistics.
- Proficiency in fundamental financial analysis, including the ability to review corporate financial documents.
- Familiarity with GAAP/IFRS accounting standards, corporate valuation, and forecasting.
- Experience in preparing company-specific and industry-wide credit memorandums.
