About the role#
The Internal Audit Group (IAG) at American Express is seeking a Staff Auditor intern for the Summer 2027 program. This role provides hands-on experience within the third line of defense, where you will gain exposure to various business portfolios. You will develop operational internal audit skills by learning and applying internal audit methodology to evaluate risks and business process controls across the organization.
What you'll do#
- Serve as a key team member on operational audit projects by evaluating risk, documenting processes, implementing audit tests, and detailing results in accordance with IAG methodology, policies, and procedures.
- Research and learn about specific audit entities.
- Deploy critical thinking to assess potential business risks and their impacts, using evidence to support your conclusions.
- Support leaders and senior auditors by collaborating in a team environment, attending walkthroughs, and preparing work papers.
- Partner with business process audit teams and management to understand key processes, develop control tests, and analyze results.
- Build audit proficiency through ongoing professional development and the strengthening of data skills.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in a full-time Bachelor’s degree program.
- Expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.
- Pursuing a degree in Accounting, Finance, Data Science, Business Administration, Computer Science, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, or related information systems and technology fields.
- Employment eligibility to work in the United States is required, as the company will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
