About the role#
As a Line Mechanic Intern, you will assist with the installation, maintenance, and operation of electrical distribution facilities. You will work on both overhead and underground equipment under the direction of a Distribution System Supervisor. This is a full-time, on-site role that requires following the same schedule and shifts as your assigned crew, including potential overtime, call-outs, and travel.
What you'll do#
- Learn and apply safety rules, including participating in safety meetings and Job Safety Analysis.
- Climb poles and ladders while performing tasks under supervision.
- Perform ground person duties and assist with loading, unloading, and handling poles.
- Assemble and install line hardware and splice primary and secondary overhead wires.
- Use and maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicles.
- Read and record meter readings.
- Interpret simple prints and specifications.
- Communicate effectively with co-workers, supervisors, and customers.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or GED.
- Enrollment in a power line related certificate program (one year or longer) or an associate degree program, both requiring a minimum 16-week internship.
- Recommended results from the HireVue Line Worker Virtual Job Tryout.
- Valid state driver's license and a CDL permit, with the ability to acquire and maintain a CDL-A license.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products like Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Basic understanding of electricity production, transmission, and distribution.
- Ability to perform heavy work, including moving objects weighing between 50 and 100 pounds.
- A continuous improvement mindset and strong communication skills.
