About the role#
The University of Virginia is hiring students to serve as Personal Trainers or Group Fitness Instructors. You will work on-site at various recreation facilities to lead fitness programs for students and members. This is a part-time, paid position with a rolling application process.
What you'll do#
- Administer fitness assessments and consultations.
- Design and lead personal training sessions for individuals or groups.
- Lead group fitness classes and assemble appropriate music playlists.
- Engage with students and members in activities that promote fitness and wellness.
- Identify when participants need modified movements and demonstrate those adjustments.
- Attend scheduled staff meetings and in-service training sessions.
What you'll need#
- You must be a current UVA student.
- For Personal Training: A nationally recognized certification such as ACE, ACSM, NASM, or NSCA.
- For Group Fitness: A certification appropriate for the specific class format.
- CPR certification is required, and First Aid certification is preferred.
- Experience in fitness assessment, session design, or leading classes.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Availability to work with a consistent number of clients or a regular class schedule each semester.
Location & details#
- Location: Charlottesville, Virginia (Aquatic & Fitness Center, Slaughter Recreation Center, Mem Gym, and North Grounds Recreation Center).
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Employment Type: Part-time, 5-8 hours per week.
- Compensation: $16-$28 per hour.
