About the role#
This is a full-time, paid internship based in Roanoke, Virginia. You will work on-site five days a week. This role focuses on using computer-aided drafting software to create and update 3D inventory parts, assemblies, and drawings, along with 2D AutoCAD Electrical drawings.
What you'll do#
- Create, revise, and maintain engineering and record drawings, sketches, and equipment documents.
- Gather information from sources including field notes, site visits, vendor catalogs, technical manuals, and verbal communication.
- Perform necessary mathematical calculations for your assignments.
- Use computer-aided design software, specifically Autodesk products like AutoCAD Electrical, Civil3D, Inventor, and Vault.
- Use Microsoft Office software to support your work.
- Read vendor prints, shop drawings, and equipment operating instructions to incorporate information into your designs.
- Follow AEP corporate policies regarding ethical behavior.
What you'll need#
- Completion of at least one year toward an associate degree in drafting, CAD, or a related engineering technology field.
- A graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- A GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Familiarity with conventional drafting symbols and methods.
- Ability to distinguish colors.
- You must be at least 18 years old.
