About the role#
American Electric Power offers a 10-to-12-week paid internship program during the summer of 2027. This full-time, on-site role provides students the chance to learn from engineers and contribute to utility projects. Interns receive a $1,500 monthly housing stipend if they relocate from more than 45 miles away. Pay ranges from $25.00 to $30.00 per hour based on education level.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with project teams on the planning, design, and execution of enterprise resource projects.
- Participate in design reviews, training sessions, and constructability assessments.
- Visit operational facilities to observe power system operations, inspections, and tests.
- Assist in the development and analysis of databases, reports, cost estimates, and dashboards.
- Support documentation for initiatives aimed at improving operational performance and safety.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s degree program for Electrical, Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
- Completion of at least your freshman year.
- A graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- Enrollment in a program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
- Minimum age of 18 years.
