About the role#
This internship focuses on the development of high-performance RISC-V CPUs. You will work within one of several sub-teams, including RTL design, implementation, design verification, formal verification, performance verification, or platform software. We use a single application process to match you with the team and location that best aligns with your skills and interests.
What you'll do#
- Implement and debug CPU-block RTL while contributing to microarchitecture and RTL infrastructure.
- Translate CPU microarchitecture into synthesizable, performant designs.
- Collaborate with the RTL team to drive improvements in power, performance, and area.
- Verify out-of-order RISC-V CPUs across ISA and microarchitecture features.
- Develop assertions and formal-analysis flows to identify hardware issues.
- Validate CPU performance through workload bring-up, simulation, emulation, and bottleneck analysis.
- Build scalable software, automation, CI/CD, and test infrastructure.
- Develop low-level software, firmware, and testing for high-performance processors.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong academic performance supported by hands-on coursework, projects, or work experience.
- Foundational exposure to HDLs, computer architecture, or RTL design and debugging.
- Programming or scripting skills in Assembly, C/C++, Python, or Perl.
- Experience or interest in design verification, formal analysis, simulation, testbenches, or coverage analysis.
- Familiarity with CPU microarchitecture, out-of-order pipelines, memory systems, or performance modeling.
- Knowledge of Linux, Git, CI/CD pipelines, firmware, or low-level system software.
- Ability to work in an on-site engineering environment and learn new tools.
- Strong debugging, analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
- Interest in RISC-V, AI/ML hardware, or using AI tools to accelerate development.
Location & details#
- This is a full-time, paid internship.
- Work is on-site in Austin, Texas; Boston, Massachusetts; Fort Collins, Colorado; or Santa Clara, California.
- Hiring occurs on a rolling basis across three terms.
- Employment is contingent upon the applicant being eligible to access U.S. export-controlled technology.
