About the role#
American Electric Power is hiring a Talent Acquisition and Human Resources Intern for Summer 2027. This full-time, paid position is based in Columbus, Ohio. You will work alongside HR professionals to support the processes that attract, engage, and develop emerging talent. You will contribute to meaningful projects and gain exposure to HR operations and talent strategy within the energy industry.
What you'll do#
- Assist in planning and executing intern orientation, learning sessions, and social events.
- Help coordinate logistics for career fairs, info sessions, and campus engagement events.
- Draft newsletters, email updates, and announcements.
- Maintain intern resource guides and FAQs.
- Manage calendars, book conference rooms, and track RSVPs for meetings and events.
- Support engagement initiatives, including buddy programs and mentorship activities.
- Update intern databases and track participation metrics.
- Assist with leadership reports and summarize intern feedback.
- Create and distribute flyers, social posts, and promotional materials.
- Take meeting notes, maintain documentation, and monitor shared inboxes.
- Contribute to diversity and inclusion initiatives and suggest improvements for the intern experience.
What you'll need#
- Completion of a sophomore year of a bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources, or a related field by Summer 2027.
- Minimum 3.0 GPA.
- Graduation date of December 2027 or later.
- Strong writing and organizational skills with high attention to detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
- Familiarity with Canva is a plus.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- This position is not eligible for sponsorship.

- Location: Columbus, Ohio (On-site).
- Term: 10 to 12 weeks during Summer 2027.
- Compensation: $22.00 to $26.00 per hour, commensurate with completed education hours.
