About the role#
The HR AI Data Science Intern joins the HR AI Enablement and Strategy team to help develop and deploy AI solutions for global HR functions. This role focuses on learning through hands-on work with agentic AI systems, data science workflows, and HR analytics. You will contribute to prototyping, experimentation, and the operationalization of new AI features to support workforce efficiency.
What you'll do#
- Assist in the design, testing, and deployment of AI agent solutions for HR processes.
- Clean and prepare HR and workforce datasets for exploratory analysis.
- Train and evaluate AI agents while maintaining data quality and ethical standards.
- Prototype AI models, agentic workflows, and analytics features.
- Collaborate with HR, IT, and analytics partners to build dashboards and data visualizations.
- Document your work, including approaches, challenges, and outcomes.
- Participate in team meetings and cross-functional projects.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a degree program such as Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or Business Administration.
- Intermediate programming skills in Python, R, or a similar language.
- A basic understanding of machine learning and AI concepts.
- Professional communication skills and the ability to explain technical ideas to non-technical partners.
- A growth mindset and the ability to self-teach new technical concepts.
- Alignment with Itron values including accountability, collaboration, and innovation.
- Prior project or work experience is preferred.
- Familiarity with HR analytics, people data, or HR technology platforms is a plus.
- Experience with data visualization tools or agentic AI frameworks is helpful.
Location & details#
- Role is based in Austin, Texas.
- This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027.
- The work modality is hybrid, requiring at least one day per week on-site at the Austin office.
