About the role#
This is a part-time internship for students currently enrolled in an accredited Surgical Technology program. You will work 8 hours per week on the day shift. This position provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in an operating room setting under the guidance of surgical techs, nurses, and surgeons.
What you'll do#
- Perform preparatory and scrubbing services in the operating room.
- Assist with surgical cases across all specialty areas.
- Set up rooms for procedures, including moving equipment like cameras, microscopes, and tables.
- Utilize aseptic techniques to prepare materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Act as a scrub assistant during surgical procedures.
- Ensure the operating room remains clean, safe, and efficient.
- Transport patients, equipment, and supplies.
- Maintain specialty carts and report equipment or supply issues to staff.
- Perform patient positioning and transfers using proper techniques.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited or approved Surgical Technology program.
- Basic knowledge of aseptic surgical techniques and operating room equipment.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
- BLS for Healthcare Providers certification (AHA) required within 6 months of hire.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical tasks like pushing, pulling, and standing for extended periods.
- Comfort working in environments with exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards.
