About the role#
This temporary internship provides exposure to the Emergency Medicine Department at Carolinas Medical Center. It is designed for individuals, particularly college graduates in a gap year, who are considering a career as a physician or physician assistant. You will work closely with doctors and nurses to assess and enroll patients in clinical trials. This role is part-time and requires on-site work.
What you'll do#
- Screen potential research subjects and obtain informed consent under the supervision of a Research Coordinator or Investigator.
- Collect and process human specimens.
- Perform database abstraction from medical records and maintain necessary research documentation.
- Provide designated treatment programs to study participants as needed.
- Communicate regularly with the research team regarding study activities.
- Provide administrative support, including answering phones, maintaining data, and creating documents or reports.
- Assist with patient and family visits, research projects, and investigations.
What you'll need#
- A college degree is strongly preferred.
- Experience working in a healthcare setting or with individuals with complex health and social needs.
- Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Strong computer skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a team member and respond to a changing environment.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including walking, sitting, and lifting at least 10 pounds to shoulder height.
- Ability to push patients in wheelchairs or supplies on rolling carts.

- Pay Range: $18.85 – $28.30 per hour.
