About the role#
The Nursing Research Intern supports the department by managing data, assisting with research projects, and maintaining administrative records. This is a per diem, on-site position based in Hartford, Connecticut. You will work under supervision to support the department mission through quality assurance, literature synthesis, and project coordination.
What you'll do#
- Manage data entry and create databases using tools like Excel, Smartsheet, and REDCap.
- Access EPIC to extract data from medical records and perform basic statistical analyses.
- Conduct library searches and synthesize scientific literature into evidence summaries.
- Support the preparation of research articles, grant applications, abstracts, and peer-reviewed manuscripts.
- Assist with IRB-related tasks, including entering applications and attending meetings.
- Prepare professional posters, presentations, tables, and figures for internal and external meetings.
- Handle administrative tasks such as filing, copying, and preparing educational materials.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited science or health-related undergraduate, graduate, or professional program with at least one academic year completed.
- Candidates who have earned a baccalaureate degree and intend to matriculate into a graduate or professional science or health program are eligible, as are those in a gap year.
- Understanding of basic research principles, data security, privacy, and academic integrity.
- Ability to work independently under supervision and manage time effectively.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with high attention to detail.
- Preferred: Coursework in research or statistics, experience with APA citation style, and familiarity with HIPAA or ethical research principles.
- Preferred: Experience working with children, families, or in health-related settings.
