About the role#
As a Sonographer Extern, you will assist in providing diagnostic imaging services at Aurora Sinai Medical Center. This part-time role provides an opportunity to apply your clinical training in a hospital setting while working under the guidance of experienced staff. You will support patient care by preparing patients for exams, operating imaging equipment, and ensuring accurate documentation of procedures.
What you'll do#
- Operate ultrasound equipment to perform general and vascular procedures.
- Review patient medical records to gather clinical information and history.
- Position patients for exams and select the appropriate transducers to capture high-quality images.
- Differentiate between normal and pathologic findings during scans.
- Label and document images according to facility standards.
- Enter study information into the radiology information system and record billing codes.
- Communicate findings to the appropriate physician after analyzing sonograms.
- Identify and report equipment performance issues.
- Maintain a safe environment by following aseptic techniques and facility protocols.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited Sonography program.
- Completion of at least 12 months of training in an accredited program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association.
- Clinical competency in abdominal, pelvic, and routine vascular exams, verified by your Program Director.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and adapt to schedule changes.
- Strong communication skills for interacting with patients and caregivers.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, lift up to 50 lbs, and perform patient transfers.

- Schedule: Part-time with various shifts, including weekends.
