About the role#
The Nurse Extern in General Pediatrics works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). You will support the delivery of safe, high-quality, age-appropriate patient care. This role helps with patient throughput by assisting with admissions, discharges, transport, and other daily workflow activities. You will perform tasks that align with your current education and validated competencies.
What you'll do#
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, and mobility.
- Obtain and document clinical measurements like vital signs, height, weight, and intake/output levels.
- Observe patients for physical or emotional changes and report findings to the RN.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for patients, including stocking supplies and managing equipment.
- Perform clerical and administrative support, such as answering phones and updating electronic medical records.
- Execute technical skills like routine venipuncture or 12-lead electrocardiograms only after documented competency validation.
What you'll need#
- Proof of high school education or GED.
- Completion of the first semester of an accredited nursing program, including basic fundamentals of nursing coursework.
- Good standing within your nursing program with a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
- Ability to provide a satisfactory reference form from a clinical instructor or preceptor.
- Verification of completion or anticipated completion of foundational nursing coursework.

- Compensation: $19.00 per hour.
- Requirements: Must attend a full week of orientation beginning December 14, 2026.
