About the role#
The Nurse Extern in the Cardiac Observation unit works under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse. You will gain hands-on experience by performing delegated patient care tasks that align with your nursing education and organizational policy. This role supports the clinical team in delivering safe, high-quality care while assisting with patient throughput and daily unit operations.
What you'll do#
- Support patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, grooming, and dressing.
- Assist with patient mobility, such as repositioning, transferring, and ambulating.
- Obtain and document routine clinical measurements like vital signs, height, weight, and intake/output.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and hazard-free patient environment.
- Observe patients for physical or behavioral changes and report findings to the RN.
- Support patient nutrition by assisting with meal setup and monitoring diet tolerance.
- Perform technical skills such as 12-lead electrocardiograms, venipuncture, and specimen collection after competency validation.
- Provide clerical and administrative support, including answering phones and updating electronic medical records.
What you'll need#
- Proof of high school education.
- Completion of the first semester of an accredited nursing program, including a basic fundamentals of nursing course.
- Current enrollment in an accredited nursing program with a minimum 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
- Ability to provide a satisfactory reference form.
- Successful completion of foundational nursing coursework required for safe clinical practice.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift as required for direct patient care.

- Location: Macon, Georgia.
- Work Modality: On-site.
- Pay: $19.00 per hour.
- Orientation: Begins December 14, 2026 (full week attendance required).
