About the role#
The Nurse Extern II program at Baptist Health Lexington offers clinical experience for nursing students during their final semester. This paid externship pairs you with a trained preceptor to help bridge the gap between classroom learning and staff nursing. Participants who complete the program are expected to transition into full-time staff roles after graduation and licensure.
What you'll do#
You will complete a 120-hour or 168-hour school practicum at the start of the semester. Once finished, you will continue working two 12-hour shifts per week for the remainder of the term. Your responsibilities include:
- Assisting with patient vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, respirations, and temperature.
- Performing patient hygiene, positioning, and bed-making.
- Administering non-parenteral and parenteral medications.
- Performing sterile procedures such as dressing changes and catheter insertion.
- Managing tracheostomy suctioning and NG placement.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in a board-approved pre-licensure nursing program.
- Senior-level standing with completed clinical coursework.
- Current enrollment at BCTC (Leestown Campus), EKU (BSN), or Morehead (BSN).
