About the role#
The Student Nurse Extern program offers nursing students the chance to gain practical experience within a hospital setting. You will participate at one of three defined levels, with your responsibilities growing as you progress through your undergraduate nursing education.
What you'll do#
- Assist nursing staff with routine patient care duties and selected procedures.
- Perform clinical functions that fall within the scope of your specific extern level.
- Work under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a nursing program.
- A letter of recommendation from a faculty instructor or program leader, which must be submitted with your initial application.
- Completion of at least one of the following: Kentucky State Registry (SRNA) certification, a successfully completed Fundamentals of Nursing course, or one year of experience as a nurse aide.
