About the role#
This position is for a 2nd Year Respiratory Therapy Extern at Aurora St. Luke’s Medical Center. You will work under the observation of a licensed respiratory therapist to gain practical experience in a hospital setting. This is a part-time role requiring 20 hours per pay period with flexible PM shifts.
What you'll do#
- Perform routine respiratory therapy procedures such as oxygen therapy, pulse oximetry, aerosol therapy, and incentive spirometry.
- Organize and maintain respiratory therapy equipment and supplies.
- Collect, clean, and reassemble equipment according to infection prevention guidelines.
- Complete annual hospital competencies and learn new procedures or equipment as needed.
- Assist with patient positioning and transport duties using proper lifting techniques.
- Provide age-appropriate care based on departmental policies and standards.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an accredited or approved Respiratory Therapy program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification from the American Heart Association.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to work independently.
- For Wisconsin externs, a commitment to transition into a graduate respiratory therapist position immediately upon completion.
- Ability to meet physical requirements including lifting up to 50 lbs, pushing or pulling with 30 lbs of force, and performing patient transfers.

- Base Pay: $22.28 per hour, plus a $3.00 per hour PM differential.
