About the role#
The Federal Work Study Assistant Set Decorator role supports the School of Motion Picture and Television. You will work alongside faculty, staff, and industry professionals to manage shop, prop room, and studio spaces. This position reports directly to the Shop Manager.
What you'll do#
- Provide daily updates to the shop manager regarding studio and shop tasks.
- Assist with tracking project tasks for the shop and set.
- Prepare studio spaces for shoots by arranging furniture and props.
- Use shop equipment, drills, and paint as needed for set preparation.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the shop, set design rooms, and prop storage areas.
- Identify and report potential safety hazards in the studios to the shop and department manager.
What you'll need#
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to carry and move furniture.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Previous experience in set decorating is a plus.

- Location: San Francisco, California.
- Modality: On-site.
- Schedule: Flexible hours, ranging from 5 to 20 hours per week.
- Compensation: $19.61 per hour.
- Status: This is a Federal Work Study position. Work schedules must not conflict with your class schedule.
