About the role#
AbCellera is looking for an engineering student to join the High Throughput Robotics team for an 8-month internship starting in January 2027. This role supports the development and maintenance of custom cell screening instruments used to image antibody-secreting cells. You will work on-site in Vancouver, receiving mentorship from experienced team members while contributing to our drug discovery pipeline.
What you'll do#
- Design and run experiments to characterize cell screening instruments and their workflows.
- Interpret experimental data and provide recommendations for system improvements.
- Write production-quality software.
- Design, assemble, and test precision prototypes using 3D printed, machined, or off-the-shelf parts.
- Validate designs in lab and cleanroom environments, including monitoring performance during production.
- Use technical manuals and internal knowledge to understand equipment.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an Engineering degree program, such as Mechatronics or Engineering Physics.
- Experience with a common programming language like Python, C++, Go, or LabVIEW.
- Familiarity with Solidworks or a similar CAD package.
- Interest in working with electronics, including microcontrollers and stepper motors.
- Comfort using shop tools and working in cleanroom or wet bench lab environments.
- Ability to design parts with manufacturing processes and tolerances in mind.
- Strong communication skills and a commitment to the scientific method.

- Compensation: CAD $3,400 - $3,800 per month.
