Tesla Internships: 2027 Guide

Tesla internships on Intern Insider are mostly full-time, on-site roles for Winter 2027 and Spring 2027, with a smaller group for Summer 2027, and most are based in California. As of 23 October 2026, the Tesla page on Intern Insider lists 331 open internships. This guide covers the tracks, terms, locations, eligibility lines and pay figures that the individual postings state, so you can tell which ones fit before you spend time on an application.

Every term, location, eligibility line and pay figure below comes from the Tesla postings as listed on Intern Insider on 23 October 2026. Postings change quickly, so the posting you apply through is the final word on its own terms.

What Tesla internships look like#

The Tesla company page on Intern Insider lists Tesla as a motor vehicle manufacturer founded in 2003 and headquartered in Austin, Texas. The Tesla postings, such as the Electrical Engineer, Energy Engineering Intern listing, describe the company as producing electric vehicles, battery storage systems and solar energy products, which explains why the internships span vehicles, energy, factory operations and business functions.

The company page shows 200 of the 331 open internships as individual listings, each linking to its own posting page under /internships/tesla/. We read each of those 200 on 23 October 2026. The summary below describes those 200 and not the full 331.

• Terms (counted from the posting pages, for example the Terafab process engineer listing for Winter or Summer 2027): 169 list Winter 2027 in their details, 82 list Spring 2027, 96 list Summer 2027 and 20 list Fall 2026. Many list more than one term.

• Format: the postings we read describe full-time work, mostly 40 hours per week and on-site.

• Locations (shown on the company page): 93 are in Palo Alto, California, 36 in Fremont, California and 23 in Austin, Texas. The rest are spread across Hawthorne, Sparks, Nevada, and other sites in the United States and Canada. Seven are in Canada, in Langley, Markham, Oakville, Richmond Hill and Laval.

• Duration and co-op: 72 state a minimum of 12 weeks, and one Hayward posting, the Global Trade internship, states a minimum of 6 months. None of the 200 listings uses the word co-op. They are titled internships, so if your school requires a co-op designation, ask your co-op office whether a Tesla internship of that length qualifies.

• Pay: 70 state a pay figure, for example the HR and People Teams internship. Pay is covered in its own section below.

Engineering internships#

Engineering postings make up most of the Tesla list. The Electrical Engineer, Energy Engineering Intern posting is a clear example of how Tesla describes the work. It sits in the System Test Infrastructure team within Energy Systems Engineering, which builds test systems and lab electrical infrastructure for energy storage, EV charging and solar products. The posting lists duties such as designing electrical schematics in AutoCAD or Altium, selecting panels, breakers and wiring, and supporting commissioning of test setups. It asks for a student currently pursuing a degree in electrical engineering, electro-mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering or a related field, in Palo Alto, for Winter, Spring or Summer 2027, full-time for a minimum of 12 weeks. No pay figure appears in that posting.

Other engineering titles in the same set include mechanical design roles in vehicle power electronics, residential energy and enclosures, powertrain and vehicle dynamics controls, and cell engineering. The Mechanical Engineer, Cell Engineering Intern posting is based in Markham, Ontario, and lists Winter, Spring or Summer 2027 as full-time, paid, with a minimum of 12 weeks.

Factory and semiconductor process roles are a separate group. The Process Engineer, Dielectric Deposition, Terafab posting is in Austin for Winter 2027 or Summer 2027. It asks for students pursuing a degree in chemical engineering, materials science, electrical engineering, physics or a related field, with hands-on thin film or fab experience, and the listing shows an apply-by date of 5 November.

Software engineering internships#

Software postings cover vehicle software, embedded and firmware work, diagnostics, data engineering and security. Two examples show the range of eligibility.

The Software Engineer, Automated Diagnostics internship is in Palo Alto for Winter 2027 through Spring 2027, full-time, on-site, with a minimum of 12 weeks. It lists pay of $50.48 to $58.89 per hour plus benefits.

The Next Gen Internship, Software Engineer, Vehicle Software is different. The posting says it is for graduating high school students who plan to begin higher education in Fall 2027, with an expected college graduation in 2031. It runs for at least 12 weeks in the summer of 2027 in Palo Alto, and it lists pay of $42.00 to $58.00 per hour plus benefits. It asks for a strong grasp of computer science fundamentals and proficiency in a language such as Python, Go, Java or C/C++.

Finance, business and operations internships#

Tesla also posts business roles. The Intern, FP&A & Business Operations posting is for Summer 2027, starting in May or June 2027 for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site. It lists Palo Alto, Austin, Fremont and Sparks, Nevada as locations. The posting describes Tesla Finance as combining financial planning and analysis with business strategy, and says interns are assigned to subgroups based on their experience, interests and educational background. It asks for a student pursuing a degree in finance, accounting, computer engineering, electrical engineering or mechanical engineering, and strong Microsoft Excel modeling skills. It describes the internship as paid and does not state a figure. The listing shows an apply-by date of 28 October, and a second FP&A & Business Operations posting lists the same term and locations.

Human resources internships also appear. The HR and People Teams internship in Fremont lists pay of $22.00 to $27.00 per hour plus benefits. Our finance internships page and the business internship resume guide are useful if this is your track.

Service technician internships#

A large group of postings is for Service Technician Trainee internships. Of the 200 listings on the Tesla company page, 18 carry that title. The Service Technician Trainee posting in White Plains, New York, is for the Fall 2026 term and is paid. It asks for knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair, a valid driver license and the ability to lift up to 60 pounds, and it states that current enrollment in an automotive program is preferred. Because this one is for Fall 2026, students who need a Winter or Summer 2027 term should look at other tracks.

Who can apply#

Eligibility differs by posting, so the useful habit is to read the requirements line before anything else. The postings above show three patterns: current enrollment in a named degree field, a graduating high school student for the Next Gen role, and enrollment in an automotive program as a preference for service roles. Eight of the 200 listings on the Tesla company page say sponsorship is not provided, so international students should check that line first.

When and how to apply#

The postings show apply-by dates. The FP&A & Business Operations, Electrical Engineer and Next Gen listings show 28 October, and the Terafab process engineer listing shows 5 November. That is a short window, so a role you want may close within days of you reading this guide.

Pay#

Pay is stated in some postings and not in others. As listed on Intern Insider on 23 October 2026, 70 of the 200 listings on the Tesla company page state a figure, and the postings we looked at in detail describe the internships as paid. Named examples are $50.48 to $58.89 per hour plus benefits for Software Engineer, Automated Diagnostics, $42.00 to $58.00 per hour plus benefits for the Next Gen software internship, and $22.00 to $27.00 per hour plus benefits for the HR and People Teams internship in Fremont. The Electrical Engineer, Energy Engineering Intern and FP&A & Business Operations postings state no figure. Ranges differ by role and location, so compare only within the posting you are considering.
