About the role#
Tesla Finance merges financial planning and analysis with broader business strategy. Finance teams work directly within daily operations to support both immediate execution and long-term planning. You will analyze data, provide recommendations, and lead cross-functional decision-making with executives and teams across the company. Interns are assigned to specific subgroups based on their experience, interests, and educational background.
What you'll do#
- Lead P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow forecast processes, including reviews with Leadership and the Board of Directors.
- Develop and track efforts to improve gross margin and cash flow.
- Manage R&D investments and planning for Engineering, including return on investment analysis.
- Support product development by establishing cost targets and guiding design and supply chain decisions.
- Manage global manufacturing investments and evaluate major CapEx decisions and expansion plans.
- Lead manufacturing cost improvement initiatives and identify focus areas for cost reduction.
- Consolidate business activity inputs to develop financial projections and track performance against plans.
- Drive cost optimization for existing and future products.
- Lead pricing efforts for Energy Products, including installation and services.
- Manage investments into Sales, Marketing, and Service (SMS) activities and lead profitability analysis.
- Develop and evaluate ROI for new markets, new business models, used vehicles, and service.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a degree in Finance, Accounting, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Evidence of exceptional ability, particularly when working in ambiguous environments.
- A strong analytical skill-set and excellent modeling skills, specifically in Microsoft Excel.
- Proficiency in Microsoft PowerQuery, Power BI, or SQL is a plus.
- Ability to work independently with a focus on detail and execution.
- Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.
- A collaborative, team-oriented mindset.
Location & details#
- Term: Summer 2027 (starting May/June 2027 for a minimum of 12 weeks).
- Modality: Full-time, on-site.
- Locations: Palo Alto, CA; Austin, TX; Fremont, CA; or Sparks, NV.
- Compensation: This is a paid internship.
