Chemical engineering internships on Intern Insider reach well past refineries. When this guide was written, the chemical engineering field page listed 2,044 open internships from 616 companies, and 236 were added this week. Employers include chemical makers, pharmaceutical plants, food and ingredient producers, semiconductor fabs, and energy developers.

Chemical engineering internships open now#
By country, the United States field page listed 1,903 open roles from 573 companies. The Canada field page listed 147 from 80 companies. On the roles hub, the United States roles page listed 512 and the Canada roles page listed 35.

Which industries hire chemical engineering interns#
The listings below were open when this guide was written. Industry page counts cover every field, not only chemical engineering.
Energy and fuels is the classic home. Delek US posts a rolling process engineering intern for a refinery in Krotz Springs, Louisiana, and the posting says you will spend time in operating process units. Kairos Power offers a Summer 2027 internship on salt chemistry, fuels, and materials for advanced nuclear technology. Commonwealth Fusion Systems in Devens, Massachusetts lists a fusion fuel systems intern for Winter 2027 or Summer 2027.
Chemicals and materials is the second cluster. Dow posts an operations internship and co-op for plant sites, with concentrations in Louisiana, Michigan, and Texas. Corning posts a 10-week process engineering internship in Durham, North Carolina. The chemical manufacturing page listed 368 open roles.
Pharmaceuticals hire for plant support rather than lab research. Sanofi lists a six-month utility engineering co-op in Swiftwater, Pennsylvania, in a cGMP manufacturing environment. That abbreviation means current good manufacturing practice. The pharmaceutical manufacturing page listed 366 open roles.
Food and ingredients are the closest match to consumer goods in the listings read for this guide. Primient in Loudon, Tennessee asks for chemical engineering and names material and energy balances, fluid flow, heat transfer, and reaction processes. IFF lists a process engineer co-op in Rochester, New York. Lactalis lists a process optimization internship in Winchester, Ontario. The food and beverage manufacturing page listed 478 open roles.
Semiconductors use chemical engineers for deposition, etch, and cleanroom process work. GlobalFoundries lists a process and equipment internship at its Malta, New York factory. Jacobs lists a chemical and process engineering internship on semiconductor facility design in Portland. The semiconductor manufacturing page listed 1,018 open roles.
Typical terms#
Summer 2027 is the large term. The summer 2027 field page listed 1,139 open roles from 380 companies, with 159 added this week. The summer 2027 roles page listed 321, with 49 added this week. Winter is the next block, then fall and spring.
Length varies by employer. Corning describes a 10-week program. Savannah River Mission Completion runs 10 to 12 weeks from May 2027 through July 2027 in Aiken, South Carolina. Dow lists single-term internships of 12 to 14 weeks and a three-term alternating co-op track. Sanofi describes a six-month co-op. What postings ask for#
The requirements below come from employer postings.
Degree and standing. Most postings ask for current enrollment in a bachelor degree program. Primient asks for a rising sophomore through master student. Jacobs asks for a rising junior. Savannah River Mission Completion asks for completion of the sophomore year.
Grade point average. Jacobs, Delek US, Sanofi, GlobalFoundries, and Storion Energy state a 3.0 minimum, and Corning asks for higher than 3.0. Savannah River prefers 2.5.
Accreditation. The Dow posting asks for an ABET accredited program, and so does Corteva Agriscience for a rolling co-op. ABET describes accreditation as a review process to determine if educational programs meet defined standards of quality.
Work authorization. Jacobs and Corning say they do not offer visa sponsorship. Dow and Sanofi ask for authorization to work in the United States without it. Kairos Power asks for authorization to access information subject to export control restrictions under Department of Energy regulations.
Site conditions. Delek US notes climbing, standing, and personal protective equipment in a refinery. Dow says you must provide your own transportation to the job site.

Commonwealth Fusion Systems asks for practical laboratory experience and experience with vacuum equipment, data analysis, modeling, Python, or fusion research. Storion Energy, a small vanadium electrolyte maker in Alpharetta, Georgia, lists a Summer 2027 chemical engineer co-op that asks for reliable housing and transportation.
