About the role#
Kairos Power is offering Summer 2027 internships for students to join engineering teams within the Salt Chemistry, Fuels, and Materials organizations. Interns will work alongside experienced engineers and scientists on technical projects related to advanced nuclear energy solutions. This role provides hands-on experience in research and development, laboratory operations, process engineering, and manufacturing technologies.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate with engineering teams on technical projects, research, and technology development.
- Apply engineering principles in laboratory, manufacturing, and field environments.
- Assist with experimental design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and documentation.
- Contribute to process design, development, safety, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support the development, evaluation, and implementation of new technologies, equipment, and engineering solutions.
- Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and engineering records to ensure reproducibility and compliance.
- Participate in team meetings, technical reviews, and cross-functional collaborations.
- Assist with the maintenance, calibration, or troubleshooting of laboratory and testing equipment.
- Prepare and deliver a final presentation summarizing project objectives and results.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in a B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. program in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Material Science, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
- Demonstrated application of technical skills outside of the classroom through laboratory work, research, extracurricular projects, or prior internships.
- Familiarity with engineering software such as MATLAB, AutoCAD, or Python.
- Understanding of basic engineering principles and practices.
- Experience with experimental design, data collection, and analysis.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.

- Locations: Alameda, California; Albuquerque, New Mexico; or Oak Ridge, Tennessee.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Modality: Full-time, on-site.
- Note: This position involves work in a facility subject to export control restrictions under 10 CFR Part 810. Authorization to access controlled information is required.
