About the role#
Kairos Power is offering a Summer 2027 internship within the Civil Structures team. This role provides hands-on experience in the design, analysis, and development of advanced reactor structures. Interns will work alongside experienced engineers on first-of-a-kind technologies, contributing to engineering analysis, structural design, and experimental investigative methods.
What you'll do#
- Learn and apply building codes and engineering standards to civil and structural projects.
- Perform engineering calculations and structural analyses using hand calculations and finite element analysis software such as ANSYS.
- Evaluate structural designs under various loading conditions, including static, dynamic, blast, vibration, thermal, and fatigue.
- Develop and maintain 3D models and 2D engineering drawings using CAD software.
- Prepare engineering reports, technical documentation, and presentations to support design activities.
- Collaborate with engineers across multiple disciplines to support design development, testing, and continuous improvement.
- Assist in the evaluation of structural materials and the development of component specifications.
What you'll need#
- Current student pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Experience with CAD software, with a preference for SolidWorks.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with scripting languages such as Python or Excel Macros is a plus.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, design calculations, and technical specifications.
