About the role#
This is a student position designed to help you obtain your CDL-A while gaining on-the-job experience as an LTL Driver. You will work under supervision to learn the trade and prepare for a career in the transportation industry.
What you'll do#
- Attend training sessions to earn your CDL-A.
- Perform vehicle inspections as required by FMCSR and company policies.
- Load and unload freight using a forklift.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Communicate regularly with service center personnel.
- Operate a tractor-trailer combination under supervision for up to 11 consecutive hours.
- Move and position converter dollies.
- Adhere to all safety policies while working in various weather conditions.
- Lift objects weighing 50 lbs. frequently and over 75 lbs. occasionally.
- Walk, stand, reach, bend, and climb in and out of equipment for extended periods.
What you'll need#
- You must be at least 21 years old.
- At least 1 year of related experience.
- A valid state-issued driver's license held for at least 12 months.
- A CDL-A permit by your first day of class.
- Ability to obtain double/triple trailers, tanker, and HAZMAT endorsements within 90 days.
- Completion of a TSA fingerprint-based background check by the second week of class.
- A safe driving record and history.
- Ability to pass a DOT drug test and a company-paid DOT physical.
- Availability to work a variety of shifts, including days, nights, and weekends.
- Ability to read and speak English well enough to converse with the public and complete reports.
- Forklift experience is preferred, as is a Class B CDL.
