About the role#
As a Truck Driver Student, you will attend training sessions to earn your CDL-A and gain on-the-job experience as an LTL Driver. This is a full-time, on-site role based in Chicago Heights, Illinois.
What you'll do#
- Attend training to obtain your CDL-A license.
- Perform supervised vehicle inspections and maintain records according to FMCSR, DOT, and company policies.
- Load and unload freight using a forklift when needed.
- Complete all required documentation and reports accurately.
- Adhere to company safety policies and stay in contact with service center personnel.
- Operate a tractor-trailer combination under supervision for up to 11 consecutive hours.
- Safely operate heavy equipment, including moving and positioning a converter dolly.
- Perform physical tasks such as lifting objects weighing 50 lbs. frequently and occasionally over 75 lbs.
- Reach, bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat, and kneel as part of daily operations.
What you'll need#
- You must be at least 21 years of age.
- Hold a valid state-issued driver's license for at least 12 months.
- Possess 1 year of related experience.
- Attain a CDL-A permit by the first day of class.
- Obtain double/triple trailers, tanker, and HAZMAT endorsements within 90 days of starting.
- Initiate a TSA fingerprint-based background check by the second week of class.
- Maintain a safe driving record and history.
- Pass a DOT drug test and a company-paid DOT physical and pre-hire test.
- Read and speak English well enough to communicate with the public and understand highway signs.
- Availability to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
- Forklift experience and a Class B CDL are preferred.
