About the role#
This internship focuses on the development and evaluation of machine learning models for autonomous driving. You will work on projects that directly contribute to the Waymo Driver. This is a full-time, paid internship for Summer 2027.
What you'll do#
- Analyze internal feature representations of deep multimodal perception foundation models.
- Design and implement active learning and data curation algorithms to find rare, safety-critical edge cases.
- Explore automated data labeling and validation workflows using Vision-Language Models.
- Train, fine-tune, and evaluate deep neural networks to improve system performance.
- Validate model performance using large-scale sensor datasets and simulation environments.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a PhD program in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
- Programming experience in Python and C++.
- Practical experience training, fine-tuning, and evaluating deep learning models for computer vision or multimodal perception using frameworks like PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow.
- Understanding of modern neural architectures such as Vision Transformers and multimodal sensor encoders.
- Research experience or publications in active learning, self-supervised representation learning, core-set selection, or Vision-Language Models is preferred.
- Hands-on experience with multi-camera or 3D LiDAR perception systems in robotics or autonomous driving.
- Experience building evaluation pipelines or data mining workflows.
- Familiarity with high-dimensional feature analysis and clustering techniques.
Location & details#
- Location: Mountain View, California.
- Modality: Hybrid.
