About the role#
Water & Environmental Technologies is looking for a Hydrogeology Intern to join our team in Butte, Montana, for the summer of 2027. This full-time, paid position offers students the chance to apply classroom knowledge to real consulting projects. You will work alongside experienced professionals on environmental and water resource challenges throughout the Rocky Mountain region.
What you'll do#
This role balances field and office work. You will contribute to project documentation and technical reporting while gaining hands-on experience in the following areas:
- Water sampling and analysis
- Monitoring well design and installation
- Drilling and well construction oversight
- Environmental data collection, management, and analysis
- Contaminant plume and groundwater flow mapping
- Contaminated site investigation and environmental cleanup
- Permitting and regulatory compliance
- Mine reclamation projects
- Hydrogeologic studies for water supply projects
- Field investigations and site documentation
- Preparation of technical reports and project deliverables
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a hydrogeology, environmental, geoscience, geological engineering, or related degree program.
- Relevant coursework or previous experience in hydrogeology, geology, or environmental engineering.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- A self-motivated, dependable, and energetic approach to work.
- Willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
- Comfort working outdoors in a variety of conditions.
- A valid driver's license and the ability to travel, including occasional overnight trips.
