About the role#
Water & Environmental Technologies is looking for an Environmental/Geoscience Intern to join our team in Kalispell, Montana for the summer of 2027. This position offers the chance to apply classroom knowledge to real consulting projects while working alongside experienced engineers and technical staff. You will gain hands-on experience through a mix of field and office work throughout the Rocky Mountain region.
What you'll do#
- Perform air, soil, surface water, and groundwater sampling and monitoring.
- Assist with monitoring well design, installation, development, and sampling.
- Conduct drilling, well construction, and aquifer testing oversight.
- Participate in hydrogeologic investigations for groundwater supply and water resource projects.
- Perform groundwater flow, contaminant plume, and potentiometric surface mapping.
- Assist with contaminated site investigations, remediation, and environmental cleanup.
- Conduct geologic and subsurface investigations, including soil and rock logging.
- Support mine and industrial permitting, environmental monitoring, and regulatory compliance.
- Assist with mine reclamation and closure projects.
- Conduct habitat, wetland, and environmental resource assessments.
- Work on water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure projects.
- Perform construction observation, inspection, and field documentation.
- Support site development, grading, drainage, and civil infrastructure.
- Perform GIS mapping, spatial analysis, and preparation of project figures.
- Conduct field investigations, surveying, GPS data collection, and site documentation.
- Perform engineering and scientific calculations and data evaluation.
- Prepare technical reports, permit applications, plans, specifications, and project deliverables.
- Manage and interpret environmental data.
What you'll need#
- Currently enrolled in an environmental engineering, geoscience, hydrogeology, or related degree program.
- Some coursework, internship, or other experience related to environmental engineering or geoscience.
- Self-motivated, dependable, and energetic personality.
- Willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Comfort working in the field and outdoors in a variety of conditions.
- Willingness to travel, including occasional overnight stays.
- Valid driver's license.
