About the role#
The Data Science Fellow role is a one-year program based in Chicago. Fellows are paired with a Vizient executive mentor to work on data science projects across clinical and operations, supply chain, pharmacy, and healthcare strategy domains. You will collaborate with internal teams and executive mentors to align projects with your professional goals, with a focus on improving operations, enhancing products, or generating new insights. Note that a one-page personal statement explaining your interest in Vizient and this fellowship is required for your application.
What you'll do#
- Work with internal data science teams on assigned projects.
- Develop data science approaches, including machine learning models, to improve understanding and predict healthcare outcomes.
- Collaborate with internal Vizient staff, leaders, and external stakeholders.
- Conduct self-directed research into healthcare data topics.
- Participate in client-facing meetings and voice-of-customer work to understand business needs.
- Present a capstone project or summary of work to peers and mentors at the end of the fellowship.
What you'll need#
- Master’s degree in data science, statistics, medical or health informatics, or a related field.
- Strong proficiency in Python, R, or SAS.
- Strong proficiency in database design using SQL.
- Demonstrated quantitative skills for data analysis and machine learning model development.
- Experience working with healthcare data, such as EHR/EMR data or medical terminologies, is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with Generative AI models and machine learning operations is preferred.

- Modality: This is an on-site, full-time position.
- Compensation: The salary range is $51,900 to $87,900, and the role is incentive eligible.
