About the role#
As an Infrastructure Engineer Intern, you will explore how large-scale technology environments are monitored, maintained, secured, and optimized. You will contribute to projects that enhance operational efficiency, strengthen platform reliability, and support modernization efforts. Working under the guidance of senior engineers and mentors, you will gain hands-on experience in infrastructure operations and participate in team meetings to analyze system vulnerabilities.
What you'll do#
- Design scalable infrastructure and implement system changes.
- Automate service delivery and maintenance tasks.
- Build monitoring and tooling activities for infrastructure systems.
- Independently resolve production issues through system problem-solving.
- Analyze outages to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Experiment with new infrastructure patterns and technologies.
- Contribute to projects aligned with USAA's Technology Strategy.
- Assist in developing and implementing innovative IT solutions, potentially using AI tools.
- Create and maintain documentation related to technical solutions.
- Gain exposure to risk and compliance procedures within IT operations.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Graduation date after August 6, 2027.
- Foundational understanding of Java or object-oriented programming concepts, data structures, algorithms, and software development fundamentals.
- Foundational understanding of SQL, database concepts, and basic scripting skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership through coursework, projects, student organizations, employment, or community involvement.
