About the role#
The Department of Facilities Management is hiring a student help desk technician for Summer 2027. You will work with the current team to support the department's fleet of PCs and mobile devices. This role requires you to be a current undergraduate student at the University of Virginia, with preference given to 1st or 2nd-year students. Please note that this position requires a DMV check.
What you'll do#
- Provide technical support for desktop software, hardware, and communications issues.
- Assist end-users through both phone support and in-person interactions.
- Document request history accurately.
- Triage and route advanced requests to the appropriate technical personnel.
- Build and deploy PCs.
- Configure and support smartphones and provide basic network support.
- Work in a team environment to resolve problems or escalate issues.
What you'll need#
- A valid Virginia driver’s license.
- Basic knowledge of Windows 10/11 and Microsoft Office Suite O365.
- Familiarity with smartphones.
- Strong phone communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team.
- A reliable and organized approach to tasks.

- Location: Charlottesville, Virginia.
- Modality: On-site.
- Term: Summer 2027.
- Pay: $16.00 per hour.
- Physical requirements: This role is not sedentary. You will need to walk to set up computer equipment and mobile devices.
