Temporary AV/Lighting Technician - Student Union - UTK

About the role#

The Temporary AV/Lighting Technician plays a key role in the Student Union auditorium at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. This position works closely with the Building Manager to ensure events are supported with high-quality technical production and effective equipment management. You will serve as a point of contact for student organizations, university departments, and external groups to facilitate their audio-visual and lighting requirements.

What you'll do#

• Serve as the on-site liaison for group AV and lighting needs during Student Union events.
• Operate audio-visual and lighting equipment for technical rehearsals and live performances.
• Create customized lighting scripts based on specific client needs and event requirements.
• Perform and arrange the maintenance and operation of sound, video, and lighting systems.
• Assist with the installation, alteration, and repair of equipment.
• Train and supervise tech team members to ensure consistent support.
• Stay current on new auditorium technology and provide recommendations for equipment upgrades and purchases.

What you'll need#

• High School diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year of experience in AV and lighting.
• Proficiency in sound, lighting, and technology systems, including design and operation skills.
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Preferred: Associate degree or relevant certifications; 3 years of experience with sound and lighting system design; experience with ETC lighting software and Pro Presenter software.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without sponsorship.
