About the role#
The Student Union Assistant Manager supports the Store Manager in overseeing daily operations at the VolShop and VolSnacks locations. This role involves managing full-time and student staff, ensuring operational efficiency, and maintaining high standards of customer service. You will serve as the Manager on Duty during peak periods, weekends, and athletic events, or whenever the Store Manager is unavailable. This is a full-time, on-site position.
What you'll do#
- Hire, train, and coach staff on store policies, product knowledge, and customer service standards.
- Manage staff scheduling and assist with payroll adjustments.
- Perform store opening and closing procedures and ensure accurate cashiering practices.
- Maintain accurate inventory controls using NetSuite ERP, including processing store transfers and conducting cycle counts.
- Resolve pricing discrepancies, manage markdowns, and report SKU issues to the Buying and IT teams.
- Oversee stockroom organization and ensure merchandise is processed efficiently.
- Collaborate with store management to implement visual merchandising guidelines and rotate seasonal displays.
- Address customer inquiries and resolve issues related to charges, returns, and account discrepancies.
- Attend departmental meetings to stay informed on store initiatives and operational policies.
What you'll need#
- High school diploma or GED (Associate’s degree preferred).
- At least 1 year of experience in the retail industry.
- 1 to 2 years of previous retail management or similar experience is preferred.
- Ability to work on-site in Knoxville, Tennessee.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis without the need for future visa sponsorship.
