    About the role#

    The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Tennessee Health Sciences College of Dentistry is seeking a full-time, research-focused faculty member. This position is open rank (Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor) and is available on either a tenure or non-tenure track. The role involves maintaining an active, independent, or collaborative research program while providing structured mentorship and facilitation for student scholarly activity across the dental education continuum.

    What you'll do#

    • Mentor predoctoral and graduate students in developing research questions, study designs, and project timelines.
    • Provide hands-on guidance in research methods relevant to biomedical and oral health sciences.
    • Support students in the responsible conduct of research, including ethics and compliance expectations.
    • Coordinate student research experiences in collaboration with departmental and college leadership.
    • Develop and deliver workshops or structured programming on research fundamentals.
    • Coach students through scholarly dissemination and support participation in professional meetings.
    • Teach within the predoctoral or graduate curriculum as assigned.
    • Maintain an active research program and pursue extramural funding.
    • Participate in departmental, college, and university service activities.

    What you'll need#

    • A doctoral degree (DDS, DMD, PhD, or equivalent terminal degree) in Dentistry, Biomedical Sciences, or a related discipline.
    • Strong organizational and project management skills to manage multiple trainee projects simultaneously.
    • Experience developing student research programming, structured mentorship models, or research training curricula.
    • Familiarity with research compliance processes, such as IRB or IACUC, and best practices in research rigor and reproducibility.
    • Teaching experience using active-learning approaches and outcomes-based assessment.
