    About the role#

    The Tobacco Education & Prevention Program (TEPP) is looking for a student assistant to support community outreach, education, and policy efforts. This role provides hands-on experience in public health, specifically focusing on initiatives to reduce tobacco and vaping use. This is a temporary, part-time position running from Fall 2026 through June 30, 2027.

    What you'll do#

    • Create educational materials and update program webpages.
    • Attend TEPP team meetings and Greater Sacramento Smoke & Tobacco Free Coalition meetings.
    • Develop monthly social media content.
    • Assemble and distribute tobacco and vaping quit kits.
    • Assist facilitators in direct cessation classes.
    • Conduct survey creation, distribution, collection, and reporting.
    • Review local and state tobacco-related media.
    • Support the completion of progress reports and assist with other public health programs as needed.
    • Attend community events, which may involve working outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain.

    What you'll need#

    • Enrollment in an undergraduate program with upper division standing.
    • Status as a student at an accredited college or university on the official affiliation list.
    • Enrollment in at least six-semester units or nine quarter units.
    • A major in Public Health, Communications, or a related field.
    • Excellent writing and communication skills.
    • Comfort with public speaking.
    • Reliable transportation.
    • A responsible and reliable work ethic.

    Location & details#

    • This position is hybrid, with work split between home and the TEPP office in Rancho Cordova, California.
    • Field work and travel account for approximately 10% of the role.
    • Work hours are flexible, generally Monday through Friday between 8 AM and 5 PM.
    • Students typically work 10 to 20 hours per week during the academic year, with the possibility of up to 40 hours during academic breaks.
    • This is a paid, non-benefited position.
